Soddy Lake
Let’s start off with a real crowd-pleaser, shall we?
Soddy Lake is an ideal paddleboarding playground for all skill levels. This peaceful 28-acre lake offers calm, flat waters perfect for beginners finding their sea legs. But don’t let the serene setting fool you – plenty of exploring can be done!
Its calmer waters and stunning views of the surrounding hills and forests make it the perfect place to find your groove and soak in nature.
Where to Launch: Holly Park has a wide public launch area (11606 Holly Circle).
Entrance Fee: None! This spot is completely free to enjoy.
Chickamauga Creek
Feeling a bit more adventurous? Then, you’ll want to check out Chickamauga Creek, a popular paddling spot for locals and visitors. This winding waterway offers a thrilling but manageable current, creating an exciting yet accessible SUP experience.
As you glide along the creek, you’ll be surrounded by towering trees, dramatic bluffs, and maybe even spot some local wildlife like blue herons or beavers. The creek has a few mild rapids, so it’s a great option for more experienced paddlers looking to test their skills.
Avoid the creek after heavy rains when the currents can get pretty gnarly.
Where to Launch: There are many launch sites along the creek, but the most popular launch point is at the Greenway Farms, where you can park for a small fee and easily access the creek.
Entrance Fee: None for the creek itself, but there is a $5 parking fee at Greenway Farms.

Harrison Bay State Park
Why settle for a pond when you can paddle the glorious Tennessee River? Harrison Bay State Park offers front-row access to this mighty waterway, with launch points for kayaks, canoes, and – you guessed it – paddleboards!
This massive 1,200-acre park, located on the banks of Chickamauga Lake, boasts a designated no-wake zone perfect for a peaceful SUP session.
They also have paddleboards available for a small rental fee of $8 per/hour.
Where to Launch: Head to the park’s boat ramp area, where you’ll find free parking and easy access to the lake.
Entrance Fee: None!

Williams Island Loop
Okay, let’s take things up a notch for all you experienced paddlers out there.
The Williams Island Loop on the Tennessee River is a classic Chattanooga paddling route that offers a little bit of everything – flat water, mild rapids, incredible scenery, and even a chance to go ashore and stretch your legs.
This roughly 5-mile loop takes you around the scenic Williams Island, allowing you to soak in views of the river gorge from multiple angles. The route includes a short portage, where you’ll need to get out and walk your board around a shallow, rapid area. But that just adds to the fun and adventure, right?
Where to Launch: Suck Creek boat ramp.
Entrance Fee: None, though depending on where you leave your vehicle, you may have to pay for parking.
Lookout Creek
Last but definitely not least, we have the lovely Lookout Creek. This often-overlooked paddling spot offers a serene, off-the-beaten-path experience that lets you really disconnect from the hustle and bustle.
Lookout Creek features glassy waters and minimal boat traffic. You’ll feel like you’ve traveled back in time as you glide past rocky outcroppings, blooming rhododendrons, and maybe even spot a few climbers scaling the iconic Sunset Rock. It’s the perfect place to find your zen on the water.
Where to Launch: Paddlers can access the creek via launches on the Tennessee River, Browns Ferry Marina, or the Nature Center (fees may apply).
Entrance Fee: Varies depending on the entrance/launch site.
