Spicy Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes were always called yams (though really they are not yams) when I was a kid. Usually served on Thanksgiving with marshmallows on top.

Don't get me wrong, those are awesome, but as sweet potatoes are more and more common, I keep searching for other delicious ways to cook them. They are so versatile!

We all know about the marshmallows and the sweetened versions, usually mashed. There are a number of ways to make savory sweet potatoes, that you don't have to mash, like these spicy cubes.

Do the Sweet Potatoes Have to be Peeled?

I think the best results are when they are peeled. In my opinion, these peels don't taste as good as the peel from a russet potato. But it's up to you.

Do give them a good scrub under cool running water before you cube and cook them.

Can I Make Wedges Instead of Cubes?

Yes you can. You may need to cook them a little longer. Be sure to flip them over halfway through cooking.

You could also cut them into rounds. Again, watch the time as these are thinner and may not need as long a cook time. Also flip halfway through cooking.

The steps to make these Spicy Roasted Sweet Potatoes are easy, here they are:

To get the best crisping on the edges, space the sweet potato cubes out on the baking sheet so they are not touching. They can be closer than this photo shows, I had a small batch.

I purchased a few sweet potatoes from the farmers market and decided to give your recipe a try. It was delicious, paired it with a salad and wings. My husband totally enjoyed his dinner. Left overs roasted yams to snack on was a treat.

This is now one of our favorite ways to serve sweet potatoes! My grandkids love these--we all do! I prepare them just as you do with the same ingredients. I've mixed up a container full of the spices to have on hand, and when we want these spicy sweet potatoes, all I need do is shake the spices over my cubed potatoes. This is a wonderful recipe.

I prefer them peeled. If you don't peel them, be sure to scrub them well.
